SMU Opens Two New Stores in the Metropolitan Region

SMU, parent company of Unimarc, Alvi, Mayorista 10 and Super10 in Chile, as well as Mayorsa and Maxiahorro in Peru, has opened a total of nine stores so far in 2025. The most recent additions are a new Unimarc in Buin—where the company now operates five locations—and a second Super10 in the commune of Renca, both in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago.

The new Buin store, located at 1451 Camino El Arpa, spans 884 square meters and features 12 checkout counters, 8 of which are self-service. It also plays a key role in local employment, with 60% of its staff coming from Buin.

“Unimarc has a strong presence in Buin. With this fifth store, we are able to serve our customers even more closely while continuing to deliver the best shopping experience. In this new location, customers will find approximately 6,000 products to meet all their needs, including those from Unimarc’s 100% Nuestro program, which highlights local flavors from entrepreneurs across the country and brings them to our shelves,” said Lionel Gubler, General Manager of the Unimarc format.

A New “Chanchito” in Renca

In addition, SMU’s soft-discount format, Super10, has opened its first store of the year in Renca. The store—the second in the commune—is located at 4120 Avenida Domingo Santa María. It covers 1,327 square meters and offers 7 checkout counters for customers. Of its total workforce, 80% are residents of Renca, reinforcing SMU’s commitment to generating local employment.

“Super10 continues to grow: we are opening more stores and reaching more and more customers. With our value proposition, we are committed to offering quality at very affordable prices, with a strong focus on our own brands such as Nuestra Cocina, Merkat, Amada Masa and Smart Clean, among many others,” said Eduardo García, General Manager of the Super10 format.

These openings are part of the company’s omnichannel growth plan, which envisions 80 new stores in Chile and 35 in Peru over the next five years. With these two additions, SMU now operates more than 400 supermarkets across Chile, including 62 Unimarc and 32 Super10 in the Metropolitan Region.
